The Studio
About Chiwara
Chiwara is an independent digital wallpaper studio creating original, African-inspired compositions for modern mobile screens. The studio explores color, landscape, material, pattern, architecture, and atmosphere through artwork designed specifically for the proportions and visual demands of a phone display.
Designed for the screen
Every composition begins with the screen itself. Vertical proportion, contrast under bright and dim conditions, and the negative space left for the clock, notifications, and app icons all shape how a piece is built. The intention is artwork that reads clearly as part of a phone interface rather than an image adapted to it after the fact.
An evolving collection
The collection is still being assembled. Work moves between architectural form, natural atmosphere, textile-inspired rhythm, minimal composition, and richly layered color, and it continues to grow as new directions are explored. The mobile application and its collection are currently being prepared for launch, and further details will be shared as that work progresses.
Independent by design
Chiwara is independently operated. That independence keeps the pace of the work tied to the artwork itself: pieces are released when they are finished, and the studio can follow a visual idea without pressure to fill a catalog. The studio has not yet made a public release.
